Bargaining (except parking) concluded; stay tuned for ratification

7/3/2018

Dear Colleague,

It is with great pleasure that I inform you that bargaining for your 2017-20 contract has concluded, after almost 1.5 years of bargaining, with the exception of parking.  Your contract has many benefits, including:

  • A process to acquire a research intensive semester for junior faculty
  • Increased pay for CAPS courses
  • The possibility of a 3/4 load for Senior Lecturer IIs
  • The right of first refusal, a development fee, and intellectual property rights for distance learning
  • Increased pay for librarians who take on supervisory responsibilities
  • New language for Clinical Nursing faculty, with benefits including travel funds for Clinical Professors, all ranks, and reduced course loads for service
  • 2% salary increases every year for 3 years (this is what everyone else received at UMass campuses)

Parking bargaining remains the big item to be completed, and we will resume parking bargaining in the fall.  We will need an organizing campaign in the fall to assure reasonable rates.  We are working closely with the other unions on parking and will organize together.  We remain in solidarity with them.  We will let you know how you can help, and let us know if you can help in our organizing campaign together.

A summary of the full contract is attached and on our website.  We will also be sending out detailed information on your new contract as soon as it is available. To receive your pay increases in a timely fashion, we will be expediting the ratification process, so your pay increases can be approved by the legislature this month.  This means a meeting next Tuesday, July 10, at 10 am (we are also looking into virtual participation), and ratification commencing at the end of next week.  We will let you know the details as soon as we have these.
