Boston’s Striking Hotel Workers

10/26/2018

The Executive Committee of the FSU wanted to make sure you all know about the ongoing strike of Boston's hotel workers.  At least 1500 members of Unite Here Local 26 went out on strike on October 3. Their main strike slogan--”One Job Should Be Enough”--speaks to a profound disjuncture between stagnant wages and the forbidding cost of living in the Boston area.  Strike organizers have issued a call for support from area unions, and the FSU Executive Committee has proudly joined dozens of other unions who support the action.  The Executive Committee has also responded to a request to contribute to the Strike Fund by making a small donation.   You can get updates on the strike on Twitter (@UNITEHERE26), Facebook  (@uniterherelocal26), or here https://www.local26.org.

FSU members who want to demonstrate individual solidarity can also do one of these three things:

*Pledge not to cross the picket lines https://www.marriotttravelalert.org/sign-the-pledge

*Make a contribution to the Strike Assistance Fund https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/supportthestrike

*Stand in solidarity with workers on the picket lines from 7 to 7 every day at any of the seven hotels.
