Reminder on the FSU annual meeting, external review of discrimination investigations at UMB, and other news from the FSU

5/2/2019

Dear Colleagues,

We are on the home stretch to the end of semester.  Here is an opportunity to get involved in obtaining a better investigatory process for discrimination complaints and a reminder on our annual meeting in one week.

Reminder:  the FSU Annual Meeting will be Thursday, May 9th at 2-3:15PM in ISC, 3rd floor, Room 3300

This is an opportunity to update you on what is going on, receive your feedback, and talk about your areas of concern and what the FSU should be working on.  The items to be considered include the FSU budget, proposed FSU bylaw changes, proposed changes for bargaining procedures, and other matters.  Please attend and give us your thoughts.

Contact the FSU office for the agenda, the proposed budget (approved by the executive committee), and these other items for your consideration. Contact the FSU office as well for Zoom info for those who cannot be there in person.

External Review of the Investigative Process of Discrimination Complaints in the University:  As a result of the FSU discussing the problems of the university’s handling complaints of discrimination/bias due to race, ethnicity, gender, national origin, religion, handicap, age, or sexual orientation, the university is conducting an outside review of the investigative arm of HR.  If you would like to talk to these external reviewers about this issue, let us know, and we will forward your name.

Celebration of FSU victories and contributions especially for NTTs:  Join us on Wednesday, May 15, 5-8 pm, to celebrate the victories of the FSU especially for NTTs.  Savin Bar and Kitchen, downstairs.  Email invitations will be forthcoming.

►REMINDER: Retirement counseling from the MTA.  Sessions are available in their Quincy and Worcester offices to help members decide the best time to retire, determine if you have buy-back opportunities, provide information on retiree health insurance, Medicare and Social Security benefits, and answer many other questions. Please see here for more information and to schedule an appointment.
