FSU Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Executive Committee Members Present: Steve Striffler; Caroline Coscia; Tracy Brown; Monique Fuguet; Jessica Holden; Travis Johnston; Meghan Kallman; Linda Liu; José Martínez-Reyes; Jeff Melnick; Joe Ramsey; Tim Sieber

Others Present: Lorenzo Nencioli, FSU Membership Coordinator; Joel Fish; Glover Martin; Ann Evans

  1. Approval of the agenda: Proposed amendments to add agenda item regarding FSU endorsement of election-related resolution and to remove budget-related agenda item.



    Motion to approve the agenda with proposed amendments. Motion seconded. Motion passes unanimously.

     
  2. Approval of the minutes of the October 16 Executive Committee meeting and the October 7 FSU General Assembly: Motion to approve. Motion seconded. Motion passes unanimously.

     
  3. Spring 2021 Election Schedule: Elections Committee presents proposed Executive Committee election schedule for Spring 2021. Up for election: Vice President, two tenured positions, one pre-tenure position, two NTT positions. Elections Committee has not yet chosen a voting platform. Caroline will recuse herself from this election since she is up for re-election. Travis will join the Elections Committee. Motion to approve the proposed election schedule. Motion seconded. Motion passes unanimously.

     
  4. Academic Reorganization Taskforce: Discussion of whether an FSU representative should serve on this taskforce.

     
  5. Organizing/Outreach: Discussion of organizing/outreach goals and strategies.

     
  6. FSU Forums: Racial justice and bargaining forum on Friday, November 6 from 4:30-6:00. NTT forum on Wednesday, November 18 from 3:30-5:00.

     
  7. Uncompensated Work: Discussion of uncompensated and unsupported faculty work on antiracism and student support and mentoring during COVID-19.

     
  8. Bayside: Discussion of development of Bayside and the effects of gentrification on the local community.

     
  9. Teaching Modality: Discussion of the Provost’s letter to faculty regarding teaching modalities for the Spring 2021 semester.

     
  10. Resolution on Presidential Election: Discussion regarding SEIU’s “Resolution: Labor must defend democracy and oppose authoritarianism: a call for preparation of a national nonviolent collective action.”
