Probable Cause in Unfair Labor Practice Complaint

11/2/2022

Dear Member,

The FSU is pleased to report that the Department of Labor Relations (DLR) has found probable cause in a case filed on behalf of our current Vice President (and former Communications Director) Jeff Melnick against the upper administration of UMB (see our email from last April for an account of the events in question).  In its ruling, the DLR has found merit in the FSU claim that Provost Joseph Berger and other officials of the university have "interfered with, restrained, and coerced its employees in the exercise of their rights guaranteed under Section 2 of the Law, in violation of Section 10(a)(1) of the Law."  While the case will not be heard for some time, this preliminary result serves as a good reminder to members of our enumerated rights and the access we have to thoughtful and committed legal representation at the Mass Teacher Association.

Sincerely,

The Faculty Staff Union Executive Committee
