Hello Colleagues,

Just as the devastating virus is following different timelines on a state-by-state basis, so too are its collateral effects unfolding along varied chronologies. In the arena of higher education, this means that all of us who teach in the University of Massachusetts system might do well to study the evidence of what is currently happening in Michigan, Ohio, and other states where the devastating practices of  austerity are being deployed.

I hope you are safe and well given the coronavirus pandemic.  Here is an update. 

►The financial outlook for UMB:  Many people are asking about budget cuts.  If these occur, this will be from cuts from the state budget and/or declining enrollments.  The university does not have a picture of enrollments for the fall yet. 

Your childcare needs

I hope you are coping the best you can in these challenging times.  The Greater Boston Labor Council is circulating a survey to help Mayor Walsh understand the childcare needs of Boston’s workers.  Please take time to complete this so they can address this important need.
