Mt Ida update and medical sick leave rights

12/19/2019

Dear Colleague,

I hope you will soon have a restful and well-deserved break.  Here’s an update on important matters.

Remarks From FSU President Marlene Kim To BOT- 12/18/19

Good morning. I am Marlene Kim, president of the Faculty Staff Union at UMass Boston.

The UMass Boston community is troubled that the trustees and President Meehan have done nothing to address our concerns around the establishment of UMass Amherst’s academic center in Newton that is vying for many of the same students and instructors that UMass Boston is also trying to attract and retain.

Welcome Back from the FSU

Dear Colleague,

Welcome back to campus for those of you who are returning.  For those of you who are new, welcome to UMass Boston. We wish you a rewarding semester ahead. As you can see, we have been busy:

Welcome back!

Dear Colleague,

Welcome back to the spring semester.  For those of you just joining us, welcome to UMass Boston!

Here are some updates and reminders:

► FSU internal organizer for this semester.  Sandra (Sandy) Howland, FSU member and union activist, (Senior Lecturer II, English), will be an FSU internal organizer this semester. Sandy will be working with the FSU to discuss with members their concerns and issues on campus and to increase membership involvement.

FSU President Marlene Kim’s remarks to the Board of Trustees, UMass Lowell, September 19, 2018

9/21/18

FSU President Marlene Kim’s remarks to the Board of Trustees, UMass Lowell, September 19, 2018.

I am the President of the Faculty Staff Union at UMass Boston.  I broke my leg this past weekend, so I wasn’t going to address you today.  But I decided to appear because I wanted to tell you that UMass Boston is broken.  We’ve been appearing at Board of Trustees meetings for over two years to tell you that it is broken, but we have received few resources and little help.
