The Faculty Staff Union Mourns the Loss of Life in Israel and Palestine

11/1/2023

We, the members of the Faculty Staff Union Executive Committee, mourning the loss of life in Israel and Palestine, voted to join the American Labor Movement in calling for US politicians to demand an immediate ceasefire and release of hostages in Gaza.

We believe it is our responsibility to ensure that our campus remains a safe place for our community to discuss, share, debate, and to foster learning, empathy, and understanding, without fear. We must acknowledge and give voice to the collective grief of all members of our community.

It is in this spirit that we have signed the following petition (which members may consider signing individually at their own discretion): The US Labor Movement Calls for Ceasefire in Israel and Palestine (everyaction.com), sponsored by UFCW 3000 (United Food and Commercial Workers) and UE (United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America). We stand in solidarity with our sister unions nationally and with workers internationally.

FSU affirms the right of workers and all people everywhere to live safely, free from violence and oppression. We are steadfast in our support, empathy, and care for members of our university and local communities who have suffered loss, who are fearful, or who are impacted in any way by this devastation. This is your union. Please contact fsu@umb.edu if you need support.
