Free Retirement Consultation for MTA Members

11/13/2020

Dear FSU Members,

The MTA is offering free retirement consultations for members. These sessions will assist you in securing answers to retirement questions as they relate to your specific situation.  For example:

- Given my age and my service, when is the best time for me to retire?

- I’ve heard that members may be able to “buy back” service. Might I have a buy back opportunity?

- I’m involved with the Section-60 option for transfer into the MSERS?  Where I am in this process?

- Why take option “C” instead of Option “A” or “B”?

- How will my Social Security benefit be affected by my State pension?

- Where will I stand with health insurance in retirement?  Will I be going into Medicare?

- As I move toward retirement, what, if any options, exists for me to enhance my retirement benefit?

For this semester, two sessions are available each month between September and January 2021.  On each date, ten, forty-minute consultations are available.  Currently, there are availabilities on two days in December (Wed., 12/02 and Thu., 12/10) and two in January (Fri., 01/08 and Tue., 01/12).

Members interested in signing up for a consultation should click on this link and immediately register for one of the available Dec., ‘20 or Jan., ‘21 time slots.  Registration requires your name and email, a best phone contact, your campus affiliation, your MTA number (on your membership card) and preference for a call or online Meet session.  Once completed, a confirmation email is generated.

You should email Ed McCourt directly emccourt@massteacher.org if you would like to be placed on a cancelation waitlist, if you want to be notified next January when late winter/spring sessions are opened for registration or if you have other retirement-related questions.  Ed will try to reply within seven to ten days.

This service is offered to FSU/MTA members only. Non-members are not eligible for this.

Sincerely,

Steve Striffler

FSU President
