FSU Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Executive Committee Members Present: Caroline Coscia (President); Jason Rodriquez (Vice President); Brian White; Andrew Elder; Karen Grayson; Lynne Benson; Monique Fuguet; Rania Said; Jorge Capetillo; Meredith Laferte- Coutu; Patricia Krueger-Henney

Others Present: Lorenzo Nencioli (FSU Senior Staff Member); Katie D’Urso (MTA Field Rep); Elizabeth Kukshtel, FSU Member

  1. Approval of Minutes:

Minutes from 9/8/25 meeting will be approved at the following Executive Committee meeting.

   2. Voting Items:

Health and Safety Committee- Heidi Gengenbach volunteered to be on committee. Motion to approve her as rep to committee. Motion seconded. Motion approved unanimously.

Clerk- Meredith Laferte- Coutu volunteers to be Clerk. Motion to approve her as Clerk. Motion seconded. Motion approved unanimously. Discussion of idea of rotating minute takers for each Executive Committee meeting.

Immigrant Rights Workshop- Agreed to ask Andrew Leong to choose date and time.

Pizza Break- Lorenzo will look at attendees from last meeting and see who was not an FSU member. Meredith suggests doing targeted invite for next Pizza Break to international faculty.

NTT Promotion Workshop- Will take place in November.

Academic Freedom Forum- Idea to hold forum is discussed.

   3. Parking Bargaining Update: Update given.

   4. FSU T-Shirts:  Rania presents possible new slogans:

-“The union has your back” 

-“We teach, we research, we strike” 

-“No business as usual on a stolen campus.” 

-“No contracts, no peace”

‘Democracy in Action’ also proposed.

Discussion of possibility of having a mission statement for FSU beyond preamble of FSU bylaws. Agreed to discuss this in future meetings.

Agreed to ask MTA for 2 mock ups of red shirt with black print. Back will have ‘Union has your back’, front will add ‘democracy in action’.

   5. Communications Committee: Will discuss at next meeting.

   6. Member Outreach: Katie noted that MTA is focusing on member drive, with particular focus on increasing membership in FSU and MCCC. Wants to get a 5% increase in membership. She is looking for planning committee. Monique, Meredith, Caroline volunteer to be on committee. Noted that Ex Com had agreed to focus outreach efforts on pre-tenure, long term NTT, and recently tenured non-members.

   7. September 11th Campus Incident: Discussion of Admin response. Noted that Admin will set up a working group with other unions to discuss issues.
