Pay Raises: Update and Action Plan

Dear Members,
We are working with other higher education unions and our parent union, the MTA, to get the state legislature to fund our contract.
Our message to legislators needs to be clear: they must pass a bill validating our contracts before Thanksgiving. Here’s what you can do:
· Call your legislators!!! Tell them to pass the supp and to be at the State House on Monday!
Tell them to get back to work and fund our contracts! We expect them to be at the Statehouse on Monday morning working on this and WE WILL BE AT THE STATEHOUSE MONDAY MORNING to do our own “roll call” and find out who is working and who is taking an early holiday vacation!
· Sign a joint letter to your legislators, along with their other constituents who are also public sector employees, so that they know how many of their constituents will not be getting paid because they could not do their work! Help to bring some transparency to this issue by sending a joint email with other constituents. Add your name HERE
· RSVP and Attend the Rally at the State House on Monday
On Monday, November 20th the legislature is holding an informal session at 11:00 am. We’ll arrive at the State House at 10:30 am to fill the fourth floor Gallery for an informal session, and then meet outside on the State House steps for a rally and press conference. It’s imperative we have a show of force on Monday.
It is important that MTA locals are visible on Monday. AFL, SEIU and NAGE will be joining us. Please click on the registration link so that you will receive event updates.
Thursday afternoon the Mass AFL-CIO Public Sector Task Force including the MTA sent a joint union letter to legislators. A copy is attached.
We asked the administration to grant leave time to our librarians and calendar year faculty to attend the State House event. We hope to hear from them later today.
Today, please take two minutes to send an email to your State Senator and State Representative. Better yet, spend another five minutes and call one of them. Every email and every telephone call make a difference.
Let’s remind our legislators that we keep the Commonwealth operating. We do our job, tell them to do theirs.
