Delayed! GIC Vote on Benefit Design Changes

2/12/2026

Dear Faculty and Librarians,

This morning the GIC commissioners voted to postpone action on benefit design changes which are the increases in our deductibles, co-pays, premiums, and to continue covering critical prescriptions such as GLP-1s.

How did this happen?  You. Everyone who sent an email to the GIC and to legislators urging them not to raise the rates.

The commissioners acknowledged receiving over 450 pages of emails.  One commissioner specifically mentioned the number of state legislators who contacted them to vote no.

The Point: Not Just Academic

2/12/2026

This week’s Point was written by Jeff Melnick of the American Studies Department, and former vice-president of the FSU. As always, The Point represents the views of the author and is not the official position of the FSU.

It is a truism, but one worth repeating to ourselves, that we are living in particularly challenging times.

Hands off our Healthcare! Stop the GIC Increase: What You Can Do

2/5/2026

Dear Faculty and Librarians,

Right now, Governor Healey is asking the Group Insurance Commission (GIC) to shift $100 million in healthcare costs from the Commonwealth onto us. If this goes through, it will mean higher co-pays, deductibles, and premiums, along with the elimination of coverage for critical prescriptions such as GLP-1s.
