Bargaining Today and Some Good Budget News!

Dear FSU Members,

Thanks so much to those of you who joined in yesterday’s all union meeting – with around 200 UMB union members.   We sent a clear message – from all the unions – to the Chancellor that labor relations need to improve if we want to be a health-promoting university.  Please join all the unions next Thursday in Quinn at 12:30 to make sure this message is heard.

And don’t forget about our next FSU bargaining action next Thursday!

See you there!

Thursday 12:30-1:30 – All Union Meeting and Action – Join us!

Dear FSU Members,

Please join all the campus unions in telling the administration that it must bargain fairly and improve labor relations on campus.

This will not take long -- Thursday, December 2, from 12:30-1:30.    (contact FSU or Steve Striffler for Zoom information).

We will be sending the Administration emails and remind them that a broad range of labor issues must be central to UMB’s strategic vision for a health promoting and anti-racist institution.

Please let your students know!- DEADLINE TO APPLY IS WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1ST

The Point: Academic Labors

Greetings, Colleagues:

I hope your few days away from campus were restful and rejuvenating and included at least a moment to meditate on the historical crimes and ongoing injustices that frame the national conversation around gratitude.

Bargaining Update and Call to Action

Dear FSU Members,

We are fed up. The FSU (along with the other campus unions, by the way, who are experiencing the same thing), are sick and tired of how bargaining, and labor relations more generally, are being treated by the current University Administration.  And we need your help; keep reading for ways you can support your union.

Reminder: NTT Promotion Workshop Nov 30th

Dear NTT Member,

This is a reminder that we are holding an informational workshop on Tuesday, November 30 11AM to 12PM on Zoom (link below) to explain the NTT promotion process but more importantly, what needs to be submitted to your chair.

The deadline to submit your materials to your department chair is no later than February 8, 2022.

Promotion eligibility including the required number of FTE years can be found in Article 21.10.2 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Point: Necessary Fictions and Cognitive Dissonance

Greetings, Colleagues:

Full disclosure: this is the first of a series of messages you will be getting in the coming days about how collective bargaining is unfolding. I get to kick things off but before long you will also hear from FSU President Steve Striffler, and also directly from our core bargaining team and contract action team.  It might seem like a lot, but it is—I promise—important.
