Protest unilateral parking fee increase and high parking fees this Tuesday

8/24/2018

Dear Colleague:

The university has informed us that for the new West Garage, you will have to pay higher ‘interim parking rates’ of $15/day.

We will be filing charges at the Department of Labor Relations to prevent them from imposing these higher rates. We will let you know what happens.

In the meantime, oppose this action and the high parking fees this Tuesday, August 28 at 2 pm with the FSU, other campus unions, and SaveUMB at the

● Residence Hall Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Action to Oppose the Parking Fee Increase

● Gather at the entrance to the Clark gymnasium at 1:40 pm

We will gather at the entrance to Clark gymnasium at 1:40 and march together to the Residence Halls and the opening ceremony. This action is designed to have a presence at the event, not to disrupt it. There will be press and “dignitaries” at this groundbreaking. We will be carrying signs and distributing a press release at this event.

This is the first in a series of actions to stop outrageous parking fee increases. It is essential that FSU members participate and play a prominent role if we are to stop the these increases. Please make every effort to attend. Please RSVP the FSU office at fsu@umb.edu if you are attending.

Future actions over the semester will include the following:

 ● Leafletting and tabling during the first two weeks of the semester. Sign up information will come soon.

 ● FSU meeting on parking and parking bargaining: Thursday September 13. 1 pm. Location will be announced.

● Protest at Convocation on Thursday, September 20 at 9:30 in the Ballroom. If you would like to help with this action, please come to the Save UMB meeting on September 11 at noon in the Labor Resource Center (W-4-151).

● Testify at parking bargaining: Let us know if you can do this.

Please contact the FSU at fsu@umb.edu for further information.

Sincerely,

Marlene Kim
