Summer Parking Pass expiration

8/30/2022

Dear FSU members,

The FSU received member inquiries regarding an email notification informing members that their summer session parking passes were expiring.  This is the first time Parking and Transportation sent a communication telling passholders their summer pass expired before the fall semester pass began.

The FSU has contacted both Labor Relations and Parking and Transportation and we continue to do so to resolve this issue specifically to follow past practice and keep summer session passes valid through August 31st at 11:59PM.

Solidarity with Amherst GEO

8/11/2022

Dear FSU Members,

The Graduate Employee Organization (GEO) at UMass Amherst needs our help.  Similar to what happened to our UMass Boston GEO, their contract negotiations are not going well.  Administration proposals include higher student fees with a minimal stipend increase for a net income loss.

Please take a moment to read and the sign the letter.  If you have family or friends in the Amherst area, tell them about Friday's rally.

We are stronger together.

Update: Healey Library actions needed

8/11/2022

Dear FSU Members,

Yesterday we informed you of an email we sent to administration regarding working conditions in Healey Library.  At that time, we had received no acknowledgment or reply.

Wednesday afternoon we received a reply from Joel Posner, HR Labor Relations which is below.

We are meeting with him this afternoon.

Thank you for supporting our librarians.

Sincerely,

Caroline Coscia                                 Jeff Melnick

FSU: Healey Library actions needed

8/10/2022

Dear FSU members,

We share with you an email sent August 8th to Chancellor Marcelo Suárez-Orozco and UMB leadership responsible for facilities and environmental health. As of the sending of this email, we have yet to receive an acknowledgement or reply.

Our librarians are working in a building where their workspaces have temperatures of over 80 degrees.  This is unacceptable.

Please feel free to contact the email recipients with your concerns.

Sincerely,

Caroline Coscia                                 Jeff Melnick
